Mykonos has acquired worldwide fame for being the Mecca of Greek nightlife and the ultimate summer playground for the rich and famous. However, there’s so much more to Mykonos than its wild party scene and glamorous beach clubs. Here are a few of the most authentic things to do in Mykonos for those of you who want to get a taste of the real island.

Wander Around Ano Mera Village
Ano Mera is a beautiful traditional village right in the centre of Mykonos Island. Walking around its narrow alleys is the best way to appreciate its gorgeous architecture which is most striking at the village’s quaint main square. If you want to have the village to yourselves, make sure you visit in the afternoon when the peace and calmness of Ano Mera are simply irresistible.
The village’s ultimate highlight is the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani with its impressive architecture. Last but not least, don’t leave Ano Mera without trying homemade sweets at Odos Araxame, a picturesque traditional coffee shop right in the heart of the village.

Visit Armenistis Lighthouse
Built in 1891 after a fatal ship accident, Armenistis Lighthouse stands in all its grandeur at the north-western part of Mykonos, overlooking Tinos Island and the great blue beyond. Armenistis Lighthouse is a beautiful building on top of a low hill that offers unique views to the sea, especially at sunset. A mere 15-minute drive from Mykonos Town, a visit to Armenistis Lighthouse is definitely not to be missed.
