Explore Vieille Ville (the Old Town)
The Italian character of the city is quite distinctive, compared with other French cities, especially in the Old Town of Nice or else “Babazouk”. You can walk around and look for the Marché aux Fleurs (Flower Market), the Galerie des Ponchettes (a museum about the artwork of Raoul Dufy), the Nice Cathedral, or just wander the narrow alleys and cobblestones with small cafes. Enjoy the salty air in Promenade des Anglais
Through this gorgeous pedestrian area, lined with palm trees and blossomed gardens, many local inhabitants enjoy their walks daily, but Sunday is a must. Popular also with cyclists and skaters, this huge promenade looks like it hugs the Mediterranean Sea and extends for about 7km.
Art tour in Musée Matisse
A must – see for art lovers, this museum includes the permanent collection of various paintings, designs, drawings and sculptures of the artist, along with sketches for the decorations of the Chapel in Vence. This diverse ensemble of works was provided by Matisse’s family as a remembrance of Matisse and his life in Nice until 1954.
Lost yourself in Place Garibaldi
One of the largest squares in Nice, this area was designed in commemoration of the famous Nice resident, Garibaldi. A statue of the historical figure can be found in the middle, bordered by Baroque buildings. Fancy an early evening aperitif? Take the tramline and enjoy it in some of the small bistros of the square.
Prepared to amazed with Cathédrale Orthodoxe Russe Saint-Nicolas
Considered to be one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches outside of Russia, the Cathedrale stands out with its glorious design and size. Decorated with many ornamental icons, iconostasis, and carved woodwork, this building follows the common Muscovite style and can leave the visitor in awe.
